LIBANGENI – Women in law enforcement ended Women’s Month with a community outreach programme and a joint roadblock in Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality.
The multi-disciplinary team included municipal and provincial traffic officers, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Fire and Rescue and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
On Thursday, 27 August, the team delivered groceries and clothing to two families in need in Maganagobushwa and Meetsemadiba. Officers also assisted both families with identity documents needed to access social services.
One of the families is homeless after its shelter was destroyed by heavy rains.
The following day, the team conducted a women-led joint roadblock at Libangeni Crossing in partnership with the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Community Police Ward (CPW) and the Department of Home Affairs’ Immigration Services.
The operation aimed to promote road safety, ensure compliance with road regulations and raise awareness of social issues.
During the operation, 193 vehicles were stopped and checked, while 13 summonses with a combined value of R12,000 were issued.
Throughout August, women in law enforcement in Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality also led operations focusing on public transport enforcement, pedestrian safety and road-safety awareness.
“This is about more than just issuing fines. It is about creating safer roads, protecting lives and building stronger communities,” one of the officers said.
The outreach and law enforcement activities formed part of the municipality’s Women’s Month programme.
