DELMAS – The murder case against Mthokozisi Mabethe and Xolani Masuku has been transferred from the Delmas Magistrate's Court to the Delmas Regional Court, where the two accused are expected to appear on 4 September 2026.
The pair face charges of murder, imputing witchcraft and defeating the ends of justice in connection with the killing of Sibongiseni Sithole.
The transfer followed the pair's appearance in the Delmas Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, where the matter was formally referred to the Regional Court. Both men remain in custody pending their next court appearance.
Mabethe and Masuku were arrested in May 2026, nearly three years after Sithole was murdered in June 2023. Their arrests followed a police investigation into the fatal incident in Delmas.
Since their arrests, the matter has been postponed several times to allow for further investigations and the completion of legal processes before being transferred to the Regional Court.
Speaking to Highveld Chronicle after the proceedings, Sibongiseni's mother, Siphiwe Sithole, welcomed the progress in the case.
"I am relieved that the case is moving forward. Hearing that it has been transferred and will be heard on 4 September gives me hope that justice is taking its course. It shows that the court process is progressing, and that means a great deal to our family. We will continue to attend every court appearance as we seek justice for Sibongiseni," she said.
Both men remain in custody and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
