DELMAS — Non-profit organisations (NPOs) received guidance on compliance, labour requirements and funding applications as the Nkangala District NPO Roadshows concluded at the Simon Gondwe Sports Centre in Victor Khanye Local Municipality on Thursday, 22 October 2026.

The roadshows brought together various stakeholders, including the Department of Social Development, Department of Employment and Labour, Department of Education's Early Childhood Development (ECD) unit, Office of the Premier, Victor Khanye Local Municipality and the National Lotteries Commission (NLC).

The initiative aimed to equip NPOs with information on registration, compliance, reporting requirements and funding opportunities.

Department of Social Development Deputy Manager for NPO Management Ntokozo Nkosi emphasised the importance of compliance in ensuring the sustainability of NPOs.

"Compliance is essential for the effective governance, accountability and sustainability of NPOs. We are urging all organisations to keep their records up to date, submit the required reports on time and ensure that they meet all applicable compliance requirements. A compliant NPO is a credible NPO," she said.

Nkosi also highlighted common reporting challenges, including organisations failing to update changes to their board membership on the system and submitting audited financial statements that had not been signed by board members.

The Department of Employment and Labour assisted NPOs with registration for the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and provided information on labour law compliance.

"Many NPOs employ workers but are not registered for UIF. We are here to assist you to register and to understand that UIF covers unemployment, maternity and dependants' benefits. Compliance with labour laws protects both the organisation and its employees," a department representative said.

The National Lotteries Commission provided guidance on its online funding application system, outlining the four phases of the application process.

"The first step to accessing funding is to correctly register your organisational profile. This requires your organisation's registration details and information about its directors, including their names, surnames, ID numbers and email addresses. If your profile is incomplete, your application will not proceed," an NLC representative explained.

Each stakeholder presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session, allowing NPO representatives to raise concerns, seek clarification and engage directly with the relevant departments and organisations.

The Department of Social Development thanked the NPO representatives who attended the roadshows.
