DELMAS — The Delmas Magistrates’ Court has relaxed the bail conditions of businessman Madoda Johannes Sibanyoni and his three co-accused, Mvimbi Masilela, Philemon Msiza and Bafana Sindani, who are facing allegations of extortion and money laundering. The court ordered the four accused to report to their respective local police stations and sign the register once a month instead of every week, following an application by the defence that was not opposed by the State.
The accused were granted bail in early June 2026 when the case was re-enrolled. Their bail conditions required them to attend all court proceedings until the matter was finalised, refrain from interfering with witnesses, report to a police station weekly and avoid committing any offence while out on bail.
The latest ruling changes their reporting frequency from weekly to monthly. It has not been established whether any other bail conditions were amended.
During the proceedings, the defence also raised concerns about alleged threats against the investigating team, stressing the importance of ensuring the safety of everyone involved in the case.
No individuals were identified as being responsible for the alleged threats in the information available.
Sibanyoni and his three co-accused allegedly demanded more than R2.2 million in protection fees from a mining businessman. The allegations have yet to be tested in court.
The matter was postponed to 20 April 2027 to allow for further investigations and the completion of outstanding disclosures.
