Emalahleni — Destiny Resort is quickly emerging as one of Mpumalanga’s most popular leisure destinations. Just minutes away from Duvha Power Station, this riverside retreat is giving locals and travellers a fresh reason to explore Emalahleni.

Destiny Resort offers a blend of family fun and tranquility. Guests can choose between swimming pools for adults and children, man-made beach-sand play areas, picnic lawns and braai spots under the trees. Safe parking, live music and boat cruises complete the experience for both day visitors and overnight guests.

The resort can accommodate up to 130 guests in a variety of chalets — from one-bedroom units for couples to spacious three-bedroom lodges for families and groups.

“Whether it’s a romantic weekend, a family reunion, or a simple day of water fun, Destiny Resort offers something for everyone,” said Dineo Minaar, the owner of the resort.

Regular visitor Princess Maduna described her stay as memorable. “It’s peaceful and fun. I even learnt how to fish and took my first boat cruise. The atmosphere is calm, the views are amazing, and there’s always something happening.”

Her experience reflects the growing attention the resort is drawing from across the province and beyond.

Turning a vision into reality

Minaar said the idea behind Destiny Resort was to create a family-focused leisure destination that also attracts backpackers and tourists.

“We needed more places for family fun and entertainment. Something that would also attract backpackers and tourists,” she said.

That vision is already bearing fruit. With its lively events, welcoming staff and striking natural scenery, Destiny Resort has become a beacon of leisure and tourism growth in Emalahleni. Plans are already underway to add water slides and build a theme park — a development expected to make it the largest water park in Mpumalanga.

“This resort is far different from anything you have seen in Mpumalanga. Our goal is to make Destiny Resort the biggest water park in the province while giving our visitors the feeling of being right on the beach.” said Minaar.

As part of its next expansion phase, the resort will demolish the previous facility, Destiny One, to make way for the new developments.

Boosting local tourism

Beyond its leisure appeal, Destiny Resort is helping to stimulate Emalahleni’s tourism sector — creating jobs, supporting small vendors, and drawing both local and international visitors.

Its riverside setting offers a unique blend of accessibility and escape: close enough to town for a day trip, yet surrounded by the calm of the Olifants River.

As Mpumalanga continues to position itself as a leading tourism hub, destinations like Destiny Resort are becoming symbols of local innovation and community growth. With its expanding facilities and natural charm, it’s poised to become one of the region’s signature family destination.
