EMALAHLENI – Mpumalanga Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) MEC, Speedy Mashilo, has promised to improve infrastructure at Elukhanyisweni Secondary School in Lynnville, eMalahleni, following its remarkable 100% pass rate for the 2024 academic year.

During his visit, Mashilo emphasised that supporting high-performing schools is just as important as assisting those that are struggling. He stressed the role of education in economic growth, urging learners to strive for excellence and pursue higher education to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.

The visit was attended by Acting Mayor Cllr Hassie Maseko, Whip of Council Cllr Condi Maseko, Speaker of Council Cllr Mduduzi “Mswati” Nkosi, Youth Manager Themba Nkosi, Ward 16 Cllr Sizwe Buthelezi, other councillors, community members, and the School Governing Body (SGB).

During discussions, the school principal and SGB highlighted several resource shortages affecting the school, such as the need to upgrade the civil and construction workshop and build a hall, amongst many other shortages. In response, Mashilo committed to providing a kitchen, enhancing security with a perimeter fence, and installing WiFi. He also pledged to supply three 5,000-litre JoJo water tanks to ensure consistent water availability.

This intervention aims to create a better learning environment, enabling Elukhanyisweni Secondary to maintain its academic excellence and continue producing top-performing learners.
