BELFAST – In an electrifying display of skill and determination, Delmas PJ Stars emerged victorious in the Mpumalanga Juniors Championship Under-13s Football Festival, held at Platorand School sports ground in Belfast, eMakhazeni, from April 25 to 27.

The top-16 tournament saw PJ Stars triumph over KamaQhekeza Football Development from Nkomazi in the final, thanks to a crucial goal from Thulani Shabalala in the second half, securing a 1-0 victory.

The win marked a significant milestone for PJ Stars, as they lifted the championship trophy and received medals for their outstanding performance. It also highlighted the team’s hard work, dedication, and strategic preparation.

According to Blessing Ngavi (22), PJ Stars’ head coach, the team’s preseason friendly matches against top-tier teams played a pivotal role in their success this year.

“We didn’t find the game as tough as we expected, and if we had converted all our chances, we could have had more than one goal,” Ngavi said in a post-match interview. “Our preseason friendlies against GDL teams played a significant role in our success this year. We dominated the game and created many chances, but unfortunately, we couldn’t convert all of them.”

PJ Stars’ coordinator, Mduduzi Mtjhongweni, echoed Ngavi’s sentiments, highlighting the team’s progress throughout the tournament.

“We’re thrilled with the outcome, and it’s a testament to our team’s hard work and preparation,” Mtjhongweni said.

The tournament also showcased impressive performances from other teams, with KMQ-Nkomazi finishing as runners-up, and Ts Sporting Mbombela claiming third place. Mega Force Ermelo took home the Plate Cup, underscoring the depth of talent in Mpumalanga’s junior football scene.

The event provided a platform for young players to showcase their skills and passion for the sport. PJ Stars’ victory serves as motivation for other teams to strive for excellence and push themselves to new heights.

As the team celebrates their championship win, they will look to build on their momentum and continue developing their skills. With the support of their coaches and the football community, PJ Stars is poised to make a lasting impact in the world of football.
